William Branham was one of the most influential men in the Pentecostal movement of the mid 1900. He is still promoted by the Pentecostals today as a true man of God.
“Branham had another divergent view, called the “serpent’s seed” view of Genesis, where Eve has sexual relations with the serpent, thus giving rise to a race of inferior and cursed human beings–that historically this view has been used to promote white supremacy and African American inferiority, (through British Israelism for example), is a theology that is refuted with regularity by Branham’s detractors. Even his followers do not like to make the nexus between the theology and its racial implications, but others have already done so – for centuries. [Comment; British Israelism claimed that Britain was the true Israel. Blacks have always been seen as inferior to Jews so they are used as slaves or done away with. The Morman church believes the same, but has softened their beliefs somewhat].
Where does the “serpent seed’ doctrine come from that Branham was teaching? It comes right from the Zohar, (Kabbalah) which teaches the Jews are gods and it is also taught in the Scofield Bible that had recently come out at the time of Branham who embraced the teachings of the Kabballah.
“In the Gospel of Philip, an early Gnostic writing, and in the Zohar, the main literary source for the teachings of Kabbalah, there is found a teaching that is commonly referred to as “the serpent seed doctrine.” This doctrine purports that Eve was impregnated by the serpent/Satan (or sometimes another being named Samael), when she was tempted in the Garden of Eden. This doctrine treats the Biblical account of Eve’s temptation as a mystical teaching whose actual meaning is that the serpent had sexual intercourse with the mother of all living and this resulted in a corrupt race of men. Following are quotations from the Gospel of Philip and the Zohar.
“Adultery occurred first, then murder. And (Cain) was begotten in adultery, for he was the son of the serpent. Therefore, he became a manslayer just like his other father (the serpent), and he killed his brother (Abel). [Source: Gospel of Philip, verse 46]” 2
