Today, Alberta’s critics couldn’t keep their stories straight — or their principles consistent.

First, former NDP MP Charlie Angus appeared on Meidas Canada — a network backed by Soros Fund Management — to call Alberta’s referendum Canada’s “Brexit summer” and a threat to democracy. The trouble? A referendum is democracy. Canada accepted two Quebec sovereignty votes without claiming that asking people to vote was anti-democratic. Calling a vote a threat to democracy isn’t defending it — it’s a lack of faith in it.

Next, Forever Canada founder Thomas Lukaszuk now insists the October referendum isn’t “our question.” That’s hard to square with the 404,000 signatures his campaign spent months collecting to demand a referendum on Alberta’s future in Confederation. He’s getting exactly what he asked for — and is now spending money campaigning against it on the Federalist side.

Finally, independence opponent David McLaughlin admitted on X that constitutional reform in Alberta’s favour is “neither pending nor plausible.” He’s right — Meech Lake and Charlottetown already proved it. Alberta has two choices: accept the status quo forever, or pursue independence.

Let’s set the record straight.

Officials in the Donald Trump administration discussed loaning the oil-rich province of Alberta hundreds of millions of dollars to help it become independent from Canada, a prominent separatist is claiming.

…

The prospect of America recognizing Alberta as the 51st state isn’t currently on the table, but it could be if separatists manage to get enough signatures to trigger a referendum declaring Alberta’s sovereignty from Canada and then win enough votes to pass the referendum, he added.

…

Modry’s remarks came during a mid-June separatism event in Red Deer, Alberta, organized by the rightwing political website Rebel News. One of the title sponsors was the America Fund, an organization that believes “in a bold new future — one where Alberta joins the U.S. as the 51st state.”

Canada Day celebrations are on July 1.  🇨🇦
