Evangelical Christianity has certainly lost its influence in American politics. We can blame it on a lot of things—Christian nationalism, zionism, wokeism. We can blame it on a culture that has simply become more hostile to Christianity.

But the reality is that we’ve lost influence because we’re unwilling to stand up, support, and defend what God has said. By our refusal to do so, God has no use for us.

Now, I use the term “us” loosely. Of course, there are plenty of Christians who will still stand and fight even at the expense of their own reputation, their jobs, and their livelihoods. But the church as a whole has demonstrated its willingness to disengage from any confrontation with the culture and instead just ride along with it.

Mike Pence is exactly that.

There’s a clip floating around of Mike Pence on CNN taking praise from the host for demonstrating “kindness” by affirming a “transgender” person’s sexual delusion. In the clip, he described calling a man dressed like a woman someone’s “daughter” and referred to that as treating him with “decency and respect.”

That man, who served in the previous Trump administration as the CIA’s daily intelligence briefer, now goes by Julia Curlee.

Pence said, “I was heartened to hear Julia reflect that that was the experience that took place in our office,” and said that it was his “Christian values” that led him to affirm this person’s gender confusion.

But the problem is that “Christian values” don’t require us to deny God’s created value. Pence’s values are not “Christian values.” They’re secular values. They are values that are politically expedient to him. They are values that make him look good in the eyes of God-haters like CNN hosts and transgenders—but that make him look bad in the eyes of God.

Mike Pence simply participated in perpetuating a worldview that denies God’s created order and then invoked the notion of “Christian values” to justify his actions.

Maybe you’ve noticed, but a lot of the same moderate “Christian” leftists who support Mike Pence are the same people who denounced Trump for being “crude.” People like…David French. They will happily denounce Trump for using harsh words on Twitter toward his opponents but stand behind Pence for being “kind” while throwing God’s word under the bus.

And Pence, who quotes Scripture and maintains a polished evangelical image, is presented as a model of Christian conviction. Yet Trump, who has no credible claim to the Christian faith, is presented as vulgar and personally immoral.

But that’s what makes Pence’s compromise so much worse. Pence claims to represent Christian beliefs, yet he practically denies biblical truth in word and deed by teaching that Christian belief requires affirming lies.

So now, we’re left with a public Christian image that looks no different from the moderate left—willing to compromise with sexual delusion and willing to elevate man’s reasoning and emotions over and above God’s law.

And we wonder why we have no influence left in American politics.

We’ve lost our credibility.

We’ve lost the one thing we had: our ability and willingness to demonstrate uncompromising resolve in the face of a culture that hates us. We’re willing to just assimilate into the culture and go along with whatever personally benefits us politically and keeps our heads out of the guillotine.

And if we keep promoting clowns like Mike Pence, we’re going to lose whatever credibility we have left in the eyes of God.
